To do otherswise is to take money under false pretenses. This is a strong argument for avoiding working for government and corporations. Government gets its money at gunpoint (this is not an indictment of government - that is the only way it can get what it needs to operate), and corporations generally are not guided by Christian ethics in their business activities. Early Christians were Roman officers, even part of Nero's staff ("household") or perhaps even personal family, tax collectors (Zacchaeus became a Christian?). But soon the Roman system spewed them out or killed them if they would not abjure Christ in favor of Caesar. You cannot serve two masters ...
