After posting this article I got my health insurance renewal. Over the last 4 years my premiums have trippled. Just this year the rates went up another 50%. I think it might be time for me to take my own advice.

I have nothing new to add, but I appreciate how you point out the correlation of emergency fund and higher deductible. A great emergency fund can save money on insurance premiums, but many people just don't see that connection. I agree. I’d rather have a larger emergency fund before I increase my deductible. Makes perfect sense to me

Good points. I especially like your suggestion of having a large emergency fund before raising deductibles.
